Tully-Fisher relation

The relationship between the width of the twenty-one-centimetre line radiation from spiral galaxies and their absolute photographic magnitude. B. Tully and R. Fisher calibrated this correlation in 1977 to derive a new technique for estimating the distances of spiral galaxies.
